Western Melbourne Field Archers are a field archery club drawing membership from across the west, north and central Melbourne. We maintain and shoot on two field archery ranges of twenty targets each, located in the natural surrounds of the Laurie Emmins Reserve at Laverton 15 minutes from the city.
We meet each 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month, holding a club shoot on one of our two field target courses on the reserve. Visitors are welcome to come and try field archery on any meeting day. Bows are available to hire for the day at a hire fee of $10, with a $10 deposit on equipment (arrows etc). Shoot fees are charged for the day - these are Adult $10, Junior $8 (12-17yrs), and Cubs $6 (11yrs and under).
Our meeting days commence at 9:30 am, where members and visitors meet at the club rooms to register, pay shoot fees, and be allocated to a small group of 3-5 people. Once organised we move to the field course, each group taking up position at our allocated starting target. Groups then move sequentially through the course of 20 targets, scoring as we go. Groups are separated across the course for safety. Archers remain in their groups as they move through the course.
Each shoot day consists of two rounds of the same 20 target course. On the first - morning round each archer can shoot up to three arrows per target (best arrow is scored). After lunch at our club rooms, we continue the day with a single arrow round on the same 20 target course in the afternoon. Soft drinks and chocolate bars are available to purchase at lunch time, and prior to the morning shoot at muster - at 9:30 am.
PLEASE NOTE - Our field course may only be used for archery during the times specified above - ie. 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month - as a participant of the official club field day as outlined above. Shooting arrows on the course outside of these times is illegal, and any person doing so would face prosecution if apprehended.
A fenced practice range is available for members of the club to use outside of the above club shooting times. This range is shared with members of Werribee Archery. Western Melbourne Field Archers have specific target butts for practice on this range. They are the big white bulker bags, and woolpacks located on the east side of the range (closest to the club rooms). Membership of one of the above clubs is required for use of this range.
Western Melbourne Field Archers are affiliated with the Australian Bowhunters Association, and so all of our members must hold (or obtain) ABA membership.
